Roemheld’s new Wedge Clamping Element is Designed for Maximum SafetyThe Roemheld range of die clamping systems for presses and injection moulding systems has been extended with a new series of robust wedge clamping elements – a hydraulic model specifically for the fixing of upper dies which meets the highest safety requirements.

The combination of automatic movements, position control of the clamping bolt and the built-in safety step is the hallmark of this reliable, easy-to-monitor clamping die. It can be used, for example, on the pressing tappet with angled clamping edges. The wedge clamp, thanks to its robust design, is able to withstand high temperatures and soiling and offers a long service life. The modular design guarantees cost-effective production, high parts availability and short delivery times.

Positive-locking safety step secures upper dies during a pressure drop

The wedge clamp is made up of a hydraulic block cylinder and a housing-guided bolt with a contact surface angled by 20°. A step in the form of a “lug” on the clamping bolt and a corresponding adapter on the die clamping edge provide additional safety. If there is a drop in pressure at the pressing tappet for any reason, the upper die descends onto the safety step and, with the adapter, forms a positive-locking connection that secures the screws and die in place.

Simple retrofitting thanks to flexible, adjustable clamping materials and corresponding adapters

As the Roemheld wedge clamps are constructed as a variant system, they can be flexibly adjusted in accordance with respective customer requirements. The standard range already includes seven designs with clamping forces of 25 to 630kN and cylinder dimensions of between 25 and 125mm. Clamping strokes of 15 to 36mm are available, and the maximum operating pressure is 350 bar respectively.

If the elements are to be used for processes with high heat requirements, special designs are also available which are temperature-resistant up to 300°C.

There are also versions for straight clamping edges, as well as models with clamping forces of up to 1,250kN and above. Further options include a special permanent lubrication and multi-layer, high-tech coatings for the clamping bolt and the housing.
