Engineers developing self-driving cars still need to work out a few kinks before we can completely zone out during a ride. Car sensors in the windshield will need to be able to defrost the glass in the winter as well as function fine with the oncoming traffic of insects. There is a solution to the former issue already, in the form of a polymer film that can heat up, while the latter problem is a tad more difficult. What can we do when there is a large bug squashed on the glass that has been baking in the hot summer sun and a few swipes of the windshield wiper are futile?
Perhaps an extra spritz of some kind of insect repellent on the sensors could help. The low-tech alternative for now is to drive 7 km/h so that the bees are hitchhikers and not collision victims.
