Ali Pajouhan, the CEO of Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC), announced the official operation of the production line of the first made in Iran Ziegler-Natta catalyst at the PRTC facilities. This catalyst which is one of the most famous catalysts in the polymer world and is used for synthesis of 1-alkene or alpha-olefines is now made in Iran for polyethylene polymerization under the license of Petrochemical Research and Technology Company.
In this regard, Mr. Ali Pajouhan said to the press: “Catalyst industry in Iran is developing rapidly with the efforts of capable and specialized researchers and experts. Accordingly, the catalyst production unit required for the production of various types of polyethylenes with the technical knowledge of the PRTC and having a production capacity of 100 tons of catalysts per year will be exploited. This amount of catalyst will be used for the annual production of about one million tons of polyethylene”. He continued: “This production unit, which has an important role in meeting the petrochemical industry’s need for catalysts, has been set up with an investment of $20 million by Bakhtar Holding in Lorestan Petrochemical, which will have a product value or annual revenue of about $ 30 million.”
In addition, this unit will create 60 direct job opportunities for Iranian experts. In another discussion related to this subject, Mr. Pajouhan describing this unit as a great access to the technical knowledge, said: “Despite access to the technical knowledge, domestic catalysts make it possible to update and improve the quality of polymer products that are produced in Iran. In the other hand, one of the main advantages of domestic production of catalysts is, the better control and more convenient of the polymerization process and the production of higher value-added products. The CEO of PRTC continued: “By producing and localizing catalysts in the country, it is possible to prevent the import of this product and the outflow of currency from the country.”
He added: “With the investment of Bakhtar Petrochemical Group, a gas polymerization catalyst production unit was built in Lorestan Petrochemical Industrial Town using the technical knowledge of Petrochemical Research and Technology Company.
This catalyst was successfully injected into the LLDPE unit of Lorestan Petrochemical in the spring of 1399 and will be officially exploited by the President as a video conference. Polyethylene polymerization catalyst will be supplied to other petrochemical complexes such as Jam Petrochemical while meeting the needs of Bakhtar Holding production units.
It should be noted that the advantages of BCC-518 & BCC-530 catalysts include the production of engineering grades with two-peak and three-peak molecular weight distributions in a wide range of grades produced in the petrochemical industry. BCC-518 & BCC-530 catalysts which can be used in production of LLDPE, medium density polyethylene and HDPE have a wide range of daily applications. Less consumption of catalyst-assisted compounds in the polymerization reaction, less solvent consumption and no production of excess titanium salts during manufacturing, which has led to the improvement and reduction of environmental parameters, high competitiveness with commercial catalysts available in the Iranian market in all processes and operational areas, and lower cost of production of final products by this catalyst are of main advantages of this unit.
