Flexible polymer specialist Hexpol TPE (Malmö / Sweden; www.hexpoltpe.com) recently showcased applications for its TPEs in the construction, appliance and consumer markets at the “Plastpol 2016 trade fair in Poland. The company said the household appliance sector continues to be an important market for Poland and that it has developed a number of TPS- and TPV-based compounds for applications including vacuum cleaners, refrigerators and consumer electronics.
“Dryflex V TPVs are being used for sealing in clothes dryers where resistance to high service temperatures and fluids is important. The compounds have been developed to retain compression set and dynamic sealing properties over long periods of time and at elevated temperatures. They are available with low viscosity and high-flow properties for injection moulded sealing applications.
The “Dryflex PS range has been developed for seals and pipe joints used in waste water applications in the construction industry. The compounds can be used as seals in thermoplastic piping systems for non-pressure waste water discharge (intermittent flow up to 95 °C) inside buildings, piping systems for non-pressure underground drainage and sewerage (continuous flow up to 45 °C and intermittent flow up to 95 °C) and thermoplastic rainwater systems.
For the consumer market, soft-touch overmoulding technologies and materials continue to offer design opportunities. The “Lifoflex range of TPEs for overmoulding PA is used in applications such as power-tools and offers high bonding strength to PA 6, PA 6.6, PA 12 and PA blends including reinforced versions with up to 40% glass fibre.
The “Dryflex Green family of TPE compounds containing raw materials from renewable resources such as plant and vegetable crops has recently been added to the company’s portfolio. The compounds display mechanical and physical properties comparable to TPEs from fossil-based raw materials.
