Irans PC Products and Polymers Exports to Turkey Halted
Iran’s PC Products and Polymers Exports to Turkey Halted: Iran’s petrochemicals and polymer exports to Turkey halted on Saturday as border checkpoints between the two countries were temporarily closed.
The news was reported by Mehr news agency a day after Turkey was taken by unrest following a coup attempt on Friday night. However, no news outlet specialising in petrochemicals and polymer has reported the halt.
Quoting West Azarbaijan Province’s Deputy Governor-General for Political, Security, and Social Affairs Alireza Radfarman, the report says the border checkpoints are only temporarily locked.
Also IRNA reported Exports Confederation Chairman Mohammad Lahuti as saying, “Right now our trade with Turkey is halted and our entire borders are closed. It seems at point of optimism the situation will go on for a few days so that Turkey’s security situations get back to normal and we can continue cooperation.”
Turkey is a major importer of Iranian petrochemical and polymer products, especially grades of linear heavy and light polyethylene, propylene, and polypropylene. The major exporters are the Shazand (Arak), Tabriz, Bandar Emam, Jam, as well as a number of other petrochemical units in Mahshahr and Asaluyeh.
Due to geographical proximity, most of Iran’s petrochemical shipments to Turkey are made by land, which counts for the fact that as the border points are closed, the export is halted.
