SO.F.TER: PA-based compounds launched / Glass microspheres cut weight of plastic part / Ideal for automotive manufacturers
Italian compounder SO.F.TER (Forli; www.softergroup.com) has introduced a new range of “Litepol compounds, which it said would particularly appeal to the automotive industry given their versatility and adaptability. The “Litepol B grades are based on PA 6, and follow the PP grades that have already been approved by major car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
“Litepol engineering polymers contain hollow glass microspheres that can reduce the weight of plastic parts by up to 30%, giving potential CO2 emission savings of 1,000 t per car, SO.F.TER said. New CO2 emissions limits set at 95 g/km will come into force in 2021.
As well as lowering weight, “Litepol products are said to give good strength and shock resistance, shorter cycle times and provide exceptional dimensional stability to the moulded parts. The compound can be used on standard injection moulding equipment with no additional investment in technology required.
