Double Demand for Polymers Answered With Lower Supply in Iranplast WeekDuring kindly political promotion of Iranplast Exhibition, the words: “Support, must grow, support to grow, we are here for the plastics industry” and a lot more could have been heard at almost all interviews by NPC top to mid-level managers. What the figures say is that at the Iranplast week the downstream industries received less attention and less materials by a successful monitoring the whole companies:

Since this week, the reports and analysis of the polymers’ trades in Iran will be more comprehensive, more reliable and more finer than the previous editions. The reason is that, at a market with no control and no statistics, presenting any material data can always be insufficient and mistake. After several meeting, the PIMI Editorial reached to a new conclusion: Reflexing only the physical deals for the whole polymer groups that have been traded at IME and only on the basis of the statistics released by the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME). Via this new policy, forgetting about what we get from the local markets and free trades, at least we could be convinced that a reliable official source will be PIMI sole reference. Unfortunately in Iran the value of statistics are not yet known for many, including parts of the Government.

Back to the analysis of the last two weeks’ polymer trades, we need to have some explanation about the table 2. If you compare the figures with the “last week’s the same news“, you will see some differences with the two tables’ figures for the week (16-21st, Sept. 2017). The reason is that this issue’s tables are more delicate with added some other polymers within our range of study.

What the first fast look at the following summarizing table says, is that, at the Iranplast week, when the demands for the polymer materials haave passed again from 100.000 tons, the supply has been reduced dramatically. Though, PIMI’s ODV Index (Offers, Demands, Volume) table shows 54.200 tons of material supply  for Sept. 16th-21st, but it is 69.929 at the following table due to addition of extra materials to the study. At this week’s PIMI ODV Index, however, the analysis of the differences are really interesting from the viewpoint of the Iran’s whole petrochemical industry behaviour with the converting companies.

Many non-Iranian exhibitors at the fair, if have heard several interviews of the NPC managing director in addition to the first vice President and the Oil Minister, also PIMI news, can justify that all words (but only words) about the goals of the exhibition were contributed to the support of the converting and downstream industries. Now the figures in the following tables have anther words!

Table I: The comparison of ODV index for the last two weeks of official polymer trade in Iran

Comparison table for polymer markets in Iran for the last 2 weeks
 ODV Index Sept. 16-21st, 2017 Sept. 23rd-28th 2017 Deviation (+ / -)
Total Offers (tons) 69.929 57.335 -12.594
Total Demands (tons) 147.670 104.462 -43.210
Trade Volume (tons) 43770 40.500 -3.270

Three important points of the above and the following tables are:

1- The extra demand increase, even about 43000 tons less than the previous week, but is about 46% of what has been supplied;

2- The mathematical result of the total “supply variation” stands for about minus 3000 tons less than the previous week;

3- The Deviations of total demands (- 43.210) is almost equal to the difference between the Deviation of the total demand minus the trade volume ( -2710) which again is almost equal to the mathematical result of the total supply variation.

Considering all these factors, logically and mathematically, we may have no result other than the fact that, the Iranian petrochemical companies though are sounding as private entities, but could totally be a harmonized group under control of the Government in order to save materials by less offering in Iran and  exporting more to other countries!

On next Sunday, PIMI like always, will also have another analysis over the material prices and its relative breakdown and details. Till then please have a review over the latest price changes at the free market on the last day before the long 4 days holidays in Iran.
