In recent weeks, tensions between the United States and Iran have risen. Meanwhile, the US president is threatening the countries of the world that will be punished if sanctions and trade with Iran are not respected. But, on the Iranian side, the government and the executive of the country read all of it useless allegations and promise people better days.
The petrochemical industry, including the production of polymer materials, is one of the sanction imposed fields by US. The polymer production capacity is about six times of domestic demand. However, petrochemical managers continue to insist on the further development of these industries and production. Two examples are the following news that show Iran’s positions. PIMI has reflected these news without any objection.
1- Targeting Petchem Exports by Sanctions, Useless
A member of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce said imposition of sanctions on Iran’s petrochemical exports was a futile policy as those who need the items would not follow suit of the US in banning Iran.
Seyyed Mohammad Atabak said the US could not impose limitations on export of petrochemicals by Iran, adding: “The US cannot force the countries that buy Iranian petrochemicals not to do so and forgo their national interest.”
Besides, he added, replacing Iranian petrochemicals is not an easy task for all countries.
Atabak said the demand for Iran-made petrochemicals by different countries is certain and the lives and interests of many countries depend on them.
“There are various methods for selling petrochemicals and the US will fail in this issue again.”
2- MP Stresses Focus on Strategic Petchem Production
Speaking to NIPAN, Ali Asqar Yousefnejad, who is also a member of the parliament’s presiding board, said that development of the petrochemical industry would lead to a booming business environment in the country, therefore production of strategic items needed to be focused upon to ensure sustainable development in the sector.
He said petrochemical products are among items that have the lion’s share of non-oil exports for the country which is one of the strong points of the energy sector for Iran.
The MP further added that Iran has a noticeable share in the global methanol, urea and polymer products’ markets, adding Iran’s customers could not easily find substitutes for the country under US pressure.
