EconCore (Leuven / Belgium) is furthering development of rPET-based sheet extrusion (Click Here). The company has announced that it installed a Meaf Machines (Yerseke / The Netherlands) extruder for testing purposes.
Following successful tests, the process is to be scaled up for commercial production at Econcore’s subsidiary ThermHex Waben (Halle / Germany). The Dutch company is targeting usage in the automotive industry as well as large-scale applications in the furniture industry.
Econcore says the PET recyclate of up to 95% content comes from used PET bottles. In a series of steps, the material is first extruded into sheets, then vacuum formed and made into a honeycomb core.
