A plastics converting factory which will produce different kinds of plastics products was launched in Chabahar Free Trade Zone in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province on Tuesday July 17th.
According to the reports by the news portal of Chabahar FTZ: The total capital investment for establishment of this factory is accounted for 360 billion Rials ($8.37 million) that includes the construction of the plant, the imported and domestically manufactured machinery, equipment, ancillaries, etc.
The ceremony was attended by Morteza Bank, adviser to the secretary of the High Council of Free Trade Zones, and Abdolrahim Kordi, CEO of Chabahar FTZ. The production unit has been built on an 11-hectare plot.
“Some 80% of the goods produced in this factory will be exported to neighboring countries, including Pakistan,” Kordi said. Kordi noted that by establishment of this plastics converting unit, 80 direct and 30 indirect jobs have been created for the native population of the Chahbahar FTZ.
However, this is not the only story behind this investment, because, some regional news agency are now blaming the CEO of the Chahbahar FTZ, for his suspicious agreements for some other huge investments. One is pointing to the 24 trillion Rials project for the country’s largest greenhouse in Chahbahar, questioning: “Could this plan raise this question in mind? When we are faced with water shortages, how do they want to supply greenhouse water? Specially when they (meaning Dr. Kordi) are promising to create jobs for 3000 natives, is this promise, like the project of the huge sports complexes, “Getting yellow out of the water?” (a regional proverb).
Regarding the new plastics converting project, Mr. Asghar Balouch, the investor of the “Sepid Plast” said:
At the begining, Dr. Kordi handed over to us a bare land on which there was a mountain and we had to spend our own personal budget to remove it. Also, we did not even get a Rial of the facility from the FTZ area, and at a personal expense we have completed the work.
