Nearly two weeks of intense control of the market for plastics materials and the downturn in the market, which also resulted in recession of the production, the market has returned to normal.
Like other Sundays, today, Jan. 13th, 2019, the Petrochemical Downstream Industry Development office (PDID), which now is considering the impact of sanctions on the fate of the country’s petrochemical industry, and predicts a danger of great loses, decided to reduce the prices of all polymers base prices by calculation of the exchange value rate of US$ by 4.5 percent, possibly lowering the price of most of the polymer materials, perhaps resulting in even more production and markets promotion.
By returning to normal condition the GPPS 1540, with 8.2% decrease compared to its last week’s base price, was priced at Rls. 101,155/Kg. which showed a decreasing of about Rls. 9000/Kg. Then HIPS 7240 ranked the second best decreased price in this week’s base price announcement. HIPS 7240 has dropped by 7.4 percent from its base price last week, which means a decrease of about Rs. 8400/Kg. and so its price announced for Rls. 105,478.
After the two above-mentioned products from the polystyrene family, the family of PVC products dropped by 5.4% in their base prices which is about one third in comparison to their last week’s base prices. The group of PVC materials experienced a fall in prices from Rs. 4050 to 4300/Kg.
Other commodities that have faced more than 5 percent in their base prices compared to last week, are PP different types which experienced 5.2-5.3% price decrease.
On of the indexes that shows the pulse rate of the market is the number of the deals at the IME hall. For example for the last two weeks that due to high security situation PIMI found it useless to follow the market, the indexes at the IME hall were as follow:
During the week Dec.22nd-29th 2018, (Saturday to Saturday) the total number of deals were recorded for 157 times and for the next week (Dec. 29th – Jan. 5th) the total number of deals were 182 times. However, for the last week the total number of deals was recorded for 184 times which shows a positive trend in the market.
As a whole, the lowest decrease for the base prices has been determined for grade 785 of PET with -1.6% which resulted in a change of price of Rls. 102,337 to 100,654 which shows a decrease of Rls. 1683, and the highest decrease was announced for GPPS 1540 by 8.2% changing its previous week’s base price of Rls. 110,173 to 101,155.
The following table shows all deals for Sat. Jan.5th to Sat. Jan. 12th 2019. All prices are in IRR and based on the US$ value of Rls. 85,843. This trend shows that the Government is still unable to control the market that is mainly controlled by brokers and FOREX black market.
