Elections of Iran Chambers of Commerce Under Shadow of FraudThe ninth period of the Iran’s chambers of commerce in 34 provinces held yesterday (March 2nd, 2019) with a little more attention of the qualified voters participating at the election. About a week of breath taking competition and superior election expenses including every night dinners for about 500-1000 voters, finally ended with the victory of all candidates of only one group of coalitions. This, today turned to murmurs from other groups.

The elections were held at the headquarters of local chambers of commerce across 34 provinces except for Tehran Chamber of Commerce, whose election was held at a Hotel in Tehran.

As reported by the portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), businessmen who are members of the local chambers of commerce and have not expired Official Business Certificate also those unqualified which have membership cards with more than 18 months of validity were able to go through electronic voting stations at Laleh Hotel  and select their candidates. Each voter had the right to vote for 40 individuals. The number of candidates were 535 individuals out of 1547 candidates in 4 sectors of commerce, industry, agriculture and mine.

Tehran’s elections, due to the importance of the Tehran Chamber over other provinces was much crowded and faced with several campaigns.

There were 657 candidates from the commercial sector, that is 42.4% of all candidates, 461 people from the industrial sector, 268 business people from agriculture as well as 161 individuals from the mining sector.

The elections for Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA) was the most important of all as there were more candidates for this chamber, that is 159 people vying for 40 seats up for grabs. There are 60 seats at the chamber, 20 of which are not elected as they are proposed by the government.

Today the trend of complains, either officially by filing a complain, or through social media started early morning when last night the announcement of the names showed that only one coalition’s all 40 candidates have been elected and by-passed very heavy weight names. So, we have to wait and see what will happen to the official complains?

The election at ICCIMA, which is called the private sector parliament in Iran, is set to be held in three months.
