Materials for production of PET bottles are on the brink of creating a new record at the Iranian Polymer market.
Whereas prices of the material is about US$ 1.2-1.4 in the Asian markets, and the official prices for different grades of it, is in the range of Rls. 112,000-185,000, but the price of some grades of this polymer has reached to about Rls. 280,000 at the Iran free markets. This market is normally controlled buy mediators.
The price of this commodity, which was released last week at a price of about Rls. 12,000, has now increased due to the intermediation of brokers at its near-peak season’s consumption peak. The price has been increased by about Rls. 60,000/Kg. Like last year, at the same time, with the arrival of speculators, intermediators and brokers to the market, the PET bottles entered to a crisis phase that lasted until the end of the hot summer season.
Last year at this period we had published several analysis and had notified the responsible bodies within the Government, that, the PET bottle crisis which affects negatively the consumer budgets, is the result of the following misconducting;
1- Lack of production by Tondgooyan PC at the last year’s capacity;
2- Inconvenient overhaul period at the high consumption peaks;
3- The same is correct for the Noori PC which provides feed-stock for Shahid Toondgooyan PC.
4- Export permission for PET preforms which made the market more critical.
Though we, as well as some syndicates had proposed some solutions but no one noticed to it.
However and unfortunately, speculators have still managed to create seizures in the bottle market. It should be seen if the authorities can control the crisis of PET bottle grade, or for the second year, they are the final consumers of preforms and drinking bottle companies that by modifying and dismissing their power, will have to shutting down their production lines, and juts blaming these misconceptions?
