NPC, Euro Firm about to Ink Petchem Deal
An official with Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) says the company is about to strike a deal with a leading petrochemical company from Europe.
“The draft of the deal has been provided and its final version will soon be signed,” the official said.
The contract will also encompass creation of joint licenses in petrochemical projects in Iran. The license is highly called for in the industry, he said.
Alimorad said the Iranian minister of petroleum and NPC managing director will disclose more details about the deal once it is final.
“The deal is the result of the talks NPC engaged in thanks to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” he added.
Iran Eyes 72mt/y Petchem Output by March 2018
Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei says Iran’s total petrochemical output will reach 72 million metric tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.
Addressing a conference on Saturday, she said it is incumbent on petrochemical exporters to close ranks and integrate in their exports.
“Integration of petrochemical units across the country can guarantee Iran’s becoming the region’s petrochemical policymaker and benchmark,” she said.
Marziyeh Shahdaei, who is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, further said Iran has planned to process 72 million metric tons of petrochemicals by the end of the current calendar year to late March 2018, adding Iran’s petrochemical output will cross 120mt/y by the end of the 6th five-year development plan to 2022.
She also called on domestic petrochemical plants to exploit the opportunities created in the industry thanks to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a landmark deal Iran struck with the P5+1 group of countries over its nuclear agenda in 2015.
New Petchem Hub to Generate 8,000 Jobs
Phase I development of Makran Petrochemical Hub will generate direct jobs for at least 8,000 Iranians, an official involved with the project’s development says.
Akbar Torkan, secretary of the supreme council of special and free trade zones, said 15 petrochemical companies are being built in the hub’s first phase.
Located in Chabahar region, southeastern Iran, the hub is being developed for production of 25 million metric tons of petrochemicals annually, he said.
Torkan further added that four methanol plants are being erected in the hub’s first phase which will create jobs for 8,000 people.
The official said an investment of $18b has been made for development of the phase, adding the project is being built in 1,200 hectare of land.
He also said that a 285-km gas pipeline for feeding the facilities in the hub is being laid out with investment provided by Ghadir Investment Company.
Torkan further said that 8 downstream projects have come online so far in the region, whose products are being exported.
