As reported by IRIB News, Eng. Marzieh Shahedaei has recently expounded in a meeting with the boards of managements of the associations and cooperatives of petrochemical downstream industries convened to brief the insiders on her new priorities and objectives during her tenure of office in the National Petrochemical Company (NPC). “The main function of NPC is to supply the petrochemicals needed by the sectors of industry across the Country and to ease development of the up-, mid- and downstream sectors as well”, she said.
Emphasizing on the dire necessity to meet the requirements of downstream industries in terms of petrochemical materials and to attain self-sufficiency relative to imports of the same, she pointed out: “This calls for essential planning to ensure production of various grades of polymers needed by domestic producers. To this end, we (NPC and Department Downstream Industries) are currently following up and verifying the issue to ease the development of converting industries and help create favorable infrastructure grounds”
In another part of her speech, she stated: “To develop downstream sectors, our follow-up and verification are essential to amend or modify certain laws also to utilize some protective laws and policies on the one hand and to reach a clear and precise definition of the said infrastructures, on the other. To this end, creating task forces and calling specialized meetings may prove a great breakthrough to remove the currently encountered challenges and problems. Indeed, any cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade as well as with “Iran Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization” (ISIPO) is very effective and this means that we do our utmost, in harmony and interaction with these institutions , to develop downstream sectors of industry and refrain from selling raw materials only to our customers”.
As announced at 14:00-hour news of IRIB, Feb. 8, 2016, Eng. Marzieh Shahedaei has taken helm of the Iranian petrochemical industry, one of the largest domestic staple industries in the oil sector, by virtue of the order issued by Eng. Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Iranian Oil Minister. With due respect to Eng. Shahedaei for her brilliant career in the past, the analysts in PIM deem the nomination as a tug of war between two key Ministers of the Iranian Cabinet, namely Messrs. Zanganeh and Nematzadeh and this may bear some injustice to Eng. Abbas Shaari Moghaddam, despite his sincere and devoted services of long standing rendered to the petrochemical industry.
