He expressed pleasure with fruitful outcome of the landmark nuclear deal signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the world six major countries (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) in July 2015.
President Pahor made the remarks in a joint press conference here with President Hassan Rouhani after their meeting in the Iranian capital. He said that the nuclear talks proved that diplomatic means is the best way for settlement of international disputes.
Slovenia believes that settlement of disputes through diplomatic means and restoring Iranian relations with the international community should be regarded as a suitable opportunity for Slovenia to bolster its economic and political ties with Iran, he said.
The current visit to Iran accompanied by Slovenian foreign minister and minister of economy leading a big economic delegation is the first official visit to open a new chapter in both sides relations, he said.
The main reason of the current visit is the excellent and unprecedented commitment shown by the Iranian supreme Leader and the country’s president to resolve the nuclear dispute through political means, he said.
Normalization of ties between Iran and the international community is a suitable opportunity for Slovenia to revive its relations with Iran at the highest level, he said.
Some months ago, a group of Slovenian businessmen reopened their bureau in Tehran and today there will be a meeting to help removal of obstacles to this end, he said. In the private meeting with President Rouhani, we studied issues of mutual interests and the regional and global developments and noticed that both sides have common stands in many issues, he said.
Iran and Slovenia believe that global issues could be resolved through diplomatic means and both sides are determined to spare no efforts to this end, the Slovenian president said. The Slovenian president invited President Rouhani to pay a visit to Slovenia.
