The Future of Plastics Packaging to take place

“The Future of Plastics Packaging” will be the topic of discussion at the upcoming conference organised by European Plastics Converters (EuPC, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsconverters.eu) and due to take place at the association’s offices in Brussels on 20 September. The one-day event will bring together players from the plastics industry, brand owners, research centres and European institutions to discuss matters like the potential challenges facing plastics packaging. In addition, there will be working groups tasked with communicating about plastics packaging.

EuPC is the EU-level Trade Association, based in Brussels, representing European Plastics Converters. Plastics converters (sometimes called “Processors”) are the heart of the plastics industry. They manufacture plastics semi-finished and finished products for an extremely wide range of industrial and consumer marketsthe automotive electrical and electronic, packaging, construction and healthcare industries, to name but a few. Plastics Converters buy in raw material in granular or powder form, subject it to a process involving pressure, heat and/or chemistry and apply design expertise to manufacture their products. They often undertake additional finishing operations such as printing and assembly work to add further value to their activities. EuPC now totals about 51 European Plastics Converting national and European industry associations, it represents close to 50,000 companies, producing over 45 millions tonnes of plastic products every year.

More than 1.6 million people are working in about 50,000 companies (mainly small and medium sized companies in the converting sector) to create a turnover in excess of 280 billion € per year.
