The heart of the Iranian plastics industry ruined due to irresponsibilities: The disaster was so deep that almost all media people in Iran were involved in it and so we had to wait and receive the most correct news and not gossips over net: On Thur.morning of Jan. 19th, 2016 a record breaking 17 storey building collapsed at the heart of Teheran due to lack of instruments by fire departments and lack of Goverments’ plans for “critial” situations like this: The 54 years old building was the heart of the Iranian plastics industry as its name shows: PLASCO Building.
The fire broke out at 7:30 by an electrical spark over an openly left behind cooking gas capsule by a shop owner at the 9th floor. Then no one was able to control the fire in a building full of clothes made of diverse polymers, In fact, if there were little knowledge and of course lack of availability of necessary foams for this kind of fires, neither the distaster had tens of casualties and rising death toll, nor, this memorandum building would have been collapsed.
ُُThe building enjoying a unique design at the time, was founded about 54 years ago by “Mr. Habib Elghanian” after establishment of the first and the greatest plastics manufacturing company “Plasko Kar” in the premisses of south-west Tehran. The factory was the greatest one at the time and for years many Iranians used to call any plastics made by aybody as PLASCO.
By establsihment of this greatest building in Tehran, also as the first consumer mall in Iran and even the Middle-East, Mr. Elghanian used one of its topest offices as his personal office for “Plasko Kar”. The ground floor had also the biggest plastics’ home appliances and so the whole building becamethe heart of the Iranian plastics industry. Now it is destroyed, at least with 32 firemen dead and many others missing under the ruins (till now);
Mr. Elghanian, a pioneer in business and a very bright man Jews was born on April 5th., 1912 and after the Iranian revolution of 1979 was arrested by revolutionaries and finally sentenced to death by shooting on May 9th 1979 with the order of the Mullah Judge with accusation of having ties and investments in Israel; something that he denied but no one accepted.
The photos show the first fireman killed at this disaster and the ruins of the buliding which at the time of the fire brke out was full of made clothes (imported and domestic) and huge materials for other preparations of the Iranian new year (Mrach 21st) counting so far about 200.000.000 $ worth.
