Proton-exchange membrane Fuel Cells are the promising technology for energy shortcoming and environmental contamination concerns and it directly converts chemical energy into electrical energy.
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are the promising candidate for the stationary power generation and automotive systems because of their lower operating temperature and smaller size in comparison with other fuel cell types.
The key component of low-temperature fuel cells is the PEM, therefore, many of the researches have been focused on the development of these electrolytes.
Nafion membranes have been used as a standard proton exchange membrane for PEMFCs because they showed high proton conductivity, thermal properties, and chemical stability.
The PEMFCs typically work at lower temperatures (<80 °C) and in this temperature range, they will experience some problems such as CO poisoning of the catalyst.
Despite the numerous benefits of Nafion membranes, they have also some drawbacks such as reduction in the proton conductivity, mechanical and chemical stabilities at higher temperatures.
Therefore, researchers are looking for different ideas to ameliorate the performance and properties of the PEMFCs.

A fuel cell is an electrochemical cell that converts the chemical energy from a fuelinto electricity through an electrochemical reaction of hydrogen fuel with oxygen or another oxidizing agent. … Fuel cells can produce electricity continuously for as long as fuel and oxygen are supplied.
