EPRO (European Association of Plastics Recycling & Recovery Organisations) announced its winners of the Best Plastics Recycled Plastics Awards at IdentiPlast last week (February 22nd 2017).
Both Awards categories, Product and Design, were won by Spanish firms.
320 delegates to IdentiPlast in Vienna voted on the shortlist of five product finalists and two Product Designs.
The finalists in design were Mi-Bin from Ireland with a multifunctional bin, and SP-Berner, from Spain, with the Miami set of outdoor furniture.
Finalists in the Product Category were Counterplas, from Britain with the Loft stilt; Papier-Mettler, from Germany with Tesco bags for life; Roofeco Systems, from Spain with the Spanish Roof Tiles; SP-Berner, from Spain with the Venus set of outdoor furniture, and Incoplas from Belgium with the EUR range bottles.
SP Berner won the Design Award, and Roofeco Systems won the Product Award.
Winning plaques were presented by Dr Christoph Scharff, CEO of ARA, at the IdentiPlast dinner.
The award recognises advancement in plastics innovation. Peter Sundt, General Secretary of EPRO, said: “The award is not only an inspiration for the winners, but also for all designers and the plastic value chain including everyone taking part in separate collection, sorting and recycling of plastic waste including the 20 EPRO members. All the finalists and the winners are great ambassadors for recycled plastic products, and are great examples of the sustainable use of recycled plastics.”
On receiving her award, Marianella Martinez, Director, Roofeco Systems, said: “I feel proud and enthusiastic of valorising plastic residues into an aesthetic, lightweight, 100 per cent waterproof and hail resistant Spanish roof tile system – through a process that needs 70 per cent less energy than conventional Spanish ceramic roof tiles.”
