* Iran Eyes 68mt/y Petchem Output Capacity by March 2018
An official with the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) says Iran’s petrochemical production capacity will reach 68 million tons per year by the end of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.
Speaking to NIPNA, Saeid Baghbani, deputy director of production control at NPC, said Iran’s petrochemical production capacity has been rising since 2012 and the country expects to reach 68 million tons of production capacity by the end of the current calendar year to March 20.
Iran’s petrochemical production capacity stood at 58mt/y in 2015 but hit 61mt/y in the following year, he said.
He said the actual petrochemical output stood at 80% of the plants’ nameplate capacity in 2015 which rose to 83% in 2016 and is expected to reach 85% in 2017.
The boost in production capacity comes from inauguration of several projects across the country and supply of more feedstock thanks to coming on-stream of new phases of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field.
