Italians Sold More Plastics Machinery to China than Germany in 2016: According to the latest report of China Plastics Machinery Industry Association (CPMIA), the market regained momentum in the second half of 2016.
In 2016, there were a total of 406 enterprises above designated sizes in plastics machinery manufacturing. Income from major operations, revenues and exports values grew significantly in both the third and fourth quarter.
28,297 units of plastics machinery were imported in 2016, up 56% compared with the previous year; import values of US$1.336 billion dropped 12%.
Pelletizers (+51%), hollow molding machines (+15%) and calendaring machines (+25%) contributed significantly to the increase of plastics machinery imports, while major machines, including injection molding, extrusion and blow molding machines import dropped with various degrees.
In 2016, 5,162 units of injection molding machines were imported at US$533 million, down 16% and 19% respectively; 840 extruders were imported at US$315 million, dropped 9% and 16% respectively; 206 units of blow molding machines were imported at US$126 million, dropped 32% and 24% respectively.
Asia remains the major plastics machinery supplier for China, representing 80.31% of the total number of machinery imported and 54.91% of total imported values. However, imports from Japan, Korea and Taiwan dropped 10.39%, 31.4% and 17.92% respectively.
European machinery represented 10.8% of the total number of machinery imported to China but 41.25% of total imported values. Import from Germany dropped 11.7% in values, while Italian and Austrian imports grew 4.12% and 46.84% respectively.
As for exports, 628,870 units of plastics machinery were shipped at US$2.001 billion, up 31% and 6% Year on Year (YoY) respectively. As a result, a favorable balance of US$665 million was achieved.
Major increase of exports came from injection molding machines, extruders, calendaring machine and 3D printers.
26,765 units of injection molding machines were exported at US$1.022 billion, up 20% and 4% YoY respectively; 43,293 units of extruders were exported at US$391 million, up 298% and 4% YoY respectively; 1,112 units of calendaring machines were exported at US$28.05 million, up 23% and 22% YoY respectively; 354,973 units of 3D printers were exported at US$75.87 million.
Of the 10 major destinations of Chinese plastics machinery, Vietnam, the US, Indonesia, India, Turkey and Mexico recorded a faster growth, while exports to Thailand and Korea dropped 29.24% and 4.48% respectively.
